Diver’s watch Aquatimer equipped with a mechanical depth gauge came on stage with Deep Two, with all the security necessaries for the divers.
Divers are not only at the fascinating strange world, but also put their in the hands of science and technology. Dive depth, dive time, rise and fall speed, decompression and pause, all must be done meticulously, to ensure an exciting adventure will not turn into a nightmare. Fortunately, the divers can now rely on computers for most of the calculations. However, divers face a similar situation with parachuters: if the parachuter can absolutely ensure that the system can operate in any normal situations, there is no need the back-up parachute. For divers, the inbuilt protecting device of Aquatimer Deep Two can play a role in the accident situation. The IWC Aquatimer Deep Two is equipped with a mechanical depth gauge and the maximum diving depth display. Once the electronic equipments of dive computer fail, it can become a back-up system.
The technology and size of Aquatimer Deep Two are the first IWC flagship watch. Divers can read the diving time through special rotating bezel, it is a reliable back-up equipment. Under the 4mm wide sapphire crystal glass face, the dial is coated with a layer of high dense Super-LumiNova luminous painting, so it is clear in any visible conditions. This important functional detail brings a new look for Aquatimer. The new rotating bezel is designed to enable users to use it more easily.
But only with the second important function, Aquatimer Deep Two can become the complete back-up safety system, that is the diving depth display, more particularly, is the maximum diving depth in the process. With these two datas, the experienced divers can have necessary decompression and pause and maintain the correct depth at any time when rising, to complete the dive task without injury. With the help of second hand and depth meter, divers can be accurately controled in the most safety rsing speed of 10 meters per minute at most. Safety comes first.
In stainless steel case of Aquatimer Deep Two is set with the 30110 automatic movement with diameter 46mm and thickness 15.5mm. The reliable movement with central seconds, date diaplay and 40 hour power reserve. The real special performance – diving depth measurement – it is completely separate from movement in function. In short: even if the movement stops, depth measuring device will continue to operate. To make the technology of mechanical depth meter to be realized, engineers learn from GST Deep One a decade ago, refer to their experience, while adding the new technology of diving depth sensor to detect enhanced pressure in water.
GST Deep One is equipped with a measuring tube around the movement, entering water through micropore in the crown when diving, it will deflect with water pressure, thus, transmits the pressure to pointer through leverage. The central axis of the measuring pointer goes through the movement in this design, can measure depth up to 45 meters.
On the other hand, when designed Aquatimer Deep Two, IWC engineers selected a new approach. The left side of dial is a semi-circular depth display, can measure water depth up to 60 meters. The actual diving depth and the maximum depth are shown by blue and red small pointers in the display. The pressure measurement system of Aquatimer Deep Two is set in another crown with cover, also in the left side of case. When out of water, the pressure transducer sets at “zero depth”, that is 1 bar of atmospheric pressure in the normal water surface, is also equal to 76 cm high of mercury column or 1033 cm of water column. When the water depth is only 10 meters, the pressure has reached twice, that is 2 bar. Water pressure through the micropore of crown cover has an effect on the film by moving to one side and physical operation, pushes the pointer into the case. This precise action starts the lever system in the automatic dial behind the bottom, making two measuring pointers deflect through a gear system.
However, most of two measuring pointers is hidden inside. They freely move between the lever system and the sealed bottom, only the protruding end of the pointer reveals in the semi-circular dial slot, moves between the scales in the display.
This is indeed a subtle design approach, it avoids the central axis passing through the movement. The depth pointer (blue) moves in the white display area, while the maximum depth pointer is always in the maximum depth scale. In fact, it is mounted on the special gear, every movement (to deeper) makes the pawl stop gear. Only press the button at the bottom of the case which has depth measuring sensor in the left side of the case, it can open the pawl. The maximum depth display will come back to zero through the spring. This is a very reliable system.
When showing the depth of 60 m, the spring-assisted pressure transducer will suddenly stop. As this watch can withstand 12 bar pressure, just for theory, the divers can wear it into the deeper place, although the actual depth is no longer displayed. Nevertheless, the divers use aqualung diving equipment are recommended that maximum diving depth should not exceed 40 meters. The crown with depth measuring sensor has an additional feature: it can be rotated to adjust two depth measuring pointers. The cover of sensor crown is very strong, it can be fit by pressure, and opened shells to clean if necessary.
Needless to say, Aquatimer Deep Two has double-sided anti-reflective sapphire glass spherical mirror of course. Screw-in crown has black rubber covered on the arounding hand surface. Watch has the options of stainless steel chain or black rubber strap. Regardless of chain or strap – or the additional buckle-style synthetic fiber which is convenient for diving – all can be used a new chain to quickly replace with new systems and then easily replace strap. The stainless steel bottom of Aquatimer Deep Two is decorated with exquisite divers helmet embossment.
